Abbey Rec

The safety flooring in the children's play area was upgraded in January 2023 with the help of Community Infrastructure Levy funding.

A split chestnut post and rail fence was installed in late 2022 making an attractive addition to Abbey Rec. Previously the Rec and the adjoining nature trail were separated by a mixture of old wire, wood and iron fences.

Over 100,000 mixed bulbs were planted by machine in Abbey Rec at the end of 2022. These should provide a colourful display for years to come.

Resurfacing of the perimeter path in Abbey recreation ground was carried out during the first months of 2021. The work was necessary because the path was old and much of the surface had become uneven. The new path is slightly wider than the old one with concrete edges and a new asphalt surface. We are grateful to Jonathan Turner of Merton Council Greenspaces department for bringing this project to fruition. Also to the Community Payback teams that are continuing to add soil to either side of the path to eliminate the step that was created when the level was raised to make it less prone to flooding.
