The new pavilion was officially opened on Saturday 29th October 2011 by Stephen Hammond – Wimbledon MP. A large number of local residents and their families, councillors, council officers, police and funds representatives attended the ceremony. The opening was reported as a news item by WimbledonSW19 and in the Wimbledon Guardian while Merton Council issued a Press Release.

The new pavilion, which replaced one which was reportedly the worst in the borough due to its dilapidated state, was built at a total cost of £360,000. WERA raised a total of £250,000 (£150,000 from London Marathon Fund and £100,000 from Viridor Credits) and Merton Council provided £110,000 to complete and manage the project.
