Community Payback
With the hard work of London CRC's Community Payback teams, Abbey recreation ground / Merton Park Green Walks was transformed from an overgrown, untidy area to one that, in 2018, was awarded Green Flag status, making it only one of six such green spaces in Merton.

Community Payback teams and their supervisors have been working in and around Abbey recreation ground each Monday since December 2017. They have untaken a wide range of tasks, including: weeding, clearing brambles, preparing ground for planting, planting young trees, mulching, cutting back overgrown vegetation, removing invasive bamboo, edging paths, painting railings, cleaning playground equipment, litter picking, sweeping the tennis courts and constructing a new seasonal pond. We are particularly grateful to Raphael Smith under whose supervision the teams have done so much good work.

A Wednesday team, also supervised by Raphael, is currently working to improve Nelson Gardens.
A third team, supervised by Martin Shallcross, is doing the same in Kendor Gardens on Thursdays.

The various tools used by the teams are generously supplied by idverde.
